One In Ones Time
Music by Joe Partridge
Texts by William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
Developed with support from Arts Council England during the 2020 lockdown, One in One’s Time is a song cycle setting Shakespeare’s words to new, original music. The piece reimagines some of the playwright’s most celebrated speeches and soliloquies — from As You Like It and Macbeth to King Lear and Twelfth Night — through an intimate, contemporary art song lens.
At its core lies the “All the world’s a stage” monologue from As You Like It, around which the cycle unfolds — exploring time, identity, performance, and the fragile boundaries between actor and audience.
